Arlys Hope Sobel

A pure-bred Norwegian whose care for others was befitting of her middle name, Arlys Sobel brought joy, happiness, and hope to so many people over her 92-plus years on earth. Arlys passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024.

She is predeceased by her parents, Huldah and Joseph Lindberg; her husband, Seymour; older sister Lois and brother-in-law Carl; and her sister-in-law Pat.

She is survived by her older brother Walter/Bud, her three children, Paul (Colleen), Kim and Dean (Jay), her four grandchildren Lauren (Jacob), Corey, Briana and Micael (Cassie), and two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Drew.

Born in Bottineau, ND in 1932, she attended Concordia College in Morehead, MN where she followed her passion in music. Through the luck of a coin flip, she moved to Oconomowoc, WI where she found the love of her life, Seymour Sobel, with whom she had three children. She taught music in the Oconomowoc and Nashotah school systems and directed the choir at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for more than 40 years. She also helped spread her love of music as a piano and voice teacher for many students.

A memorial service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church music program.
