Matthew Melotik, 22

Matthew Melotik, 22

It is with great sadness the family of Matthew Melotik announce his unexpected passing on Thursday, August 29, 2024. He was born the son of Paul and Wendy (nee Thibodeau) Melotik on November 13, 2001. Matthew graduated from Grafton High School in 2020 and went on to receive his diploma in Computer Engineering from MSOE in May of 2024.

Matthew loved the outdoors and appreciated nature around him. He had just returned from a two-and-a-half-month hike on the Appalachian Trail. He came home for his brother’s wedding and was planning to return to finish the entire Trail. Matthew was tremendously happy and proud of accomplishing the first 750 miles. He was literally on top of the world! He was brave and intelligent, always determined to finish anything he started. Matthew had a curious and adventurous spirit. He loved traveling and exploring on family trips around the country and most recently to Belize. He also cherished his time with family and friends at their lake home and the family cabin in Crivitz.

Matthew’s interests varied from his love of snowboarding to gaming with his friends and brothers. He was a four-year member of the MSOE competitive e-sports team. Growing up Matthew enjoyed many years playing youth sports in Grafton and at St. Joseph Parish School with his friends. His family loved spending time practicing with him, watching him play, and his father coaching him. Matthew enjoyed tinkering and building, beginning with LEGO’s and moving on to electronics and his own computer. He was a true hobbyist that loved to explore our world and develop new skills; woodworking, metals, and mechanical design were among his many talents.

Matthew had a quiet nature; he was confident, a cherished son, brother and loyal friend.

Matthew’s memory will remain in the hearts of his parents Paul and Wendy of Grafton, his siblings Luke (Olivia) Melotik, Ryan and Alicia Melotik; maternal grandparents Roger (Marge) Thibodeau; aunts and uncles Sue (Brian) Tachick, Sandy (Randy) Sievert, Sharon (Andy) Dana, Renee Thibodeau, Daniel (Tiffany Monday) Melotik, Marie Stelloh, Jerome Melotik and Michael (Doris) Melotik. Matthew is further survived by cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Donald (Janet) Melotik, maternal grandmother Carol Thibodeau, aunt and uncle Diane (Dan) Gahagan and uncle Steve Stelloh.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton. Fr. Steve Lampe presided. Matthew will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Grafton.
